Asthma is a chronic respiratory ailment that causes wheezing, coughing, chest congestion, shortness of breath and often tremendous anxiety about being unable to breathe. Many people consider this disease a childhood illness, and there’s certainly no shortage of kids with this disease. But it can develop at any age, and the fact is, most people with this disease are adults. Here are some home remedies for asthma. Natural treatment for asthma Caffeine: Coffee, tea, caffeinated cola drinks, cocoa and chocolate have more than caffeine. They contains two other major natural anti-asthmatic compounds, theobromine and theoplylline, which along with caffeine, belong to a family of chemicals called xanthines. These chemicals help stop bronchospasms and open constricted bronchial passage. Though caffeine can cause insomnia and the jitters, but in their natural state, the anti-asthmatic compounds actually cause fewer side effects. Anise and Fennel: Tea made from fennel and anise for asthma and other respiratory disorders. Both contain helpful chemicals, creosol and alpha-pinene, that help loosed bronchial secretions. Fennel seeds can contain as much as 8,800 (ppm) parts per million of alpha-pinene and anise have only 360 (ppm). Licorice: Licorice tea calms the throat and is often advised for sore throat, cough and asthma. Licorice and its extracts are harmless for normal use in moderation, maximum three cups a day. Tomato and citrus fruits: Tomato and citrus fruits contain vitamin C that helps prevents attacks, bronchospasm, wheezing respiratory infections, nasal congestion, watery eyes and other allergies. Vitamin C inhibits the release of histamine. The citrus fruits also contain flavonoids, the substance that also blocks the release of histamine, in turn curbing allergy symptom and allergy-related problems. More natural asthma remedies Ginger: It’s a good remedy for various diseases including asthma. Mixing equal quantity of ginger, pomegranate juice and honey and taken one tablespoon for three times a day is helpful. Also a teaspoon of ground ginger in one and a half cup water at bedtime is a good remedy. Figs: Dried figs soaked in a cup of water overnight. Drink this water and eat soaked figs in the morning, empty stomach. This treatment can be continued for a couple of months provide relief from asthma. Garlic: Boiling 10 to 15 garlic cloves and boil them in one and a half cup of milk. Drinking it once a day is helpful. Honey: Inhaling the smell of honey give relief from asthma to some people. Also drinking slowly a teaspoon of honey in a glass of hot water for three times a day is also helpful. Eating a paste of one teaspoon of honey and half teaspoon of cinnamon power helps eliminate phlegm and provides better sleep. It is one of the best asthma remedies. Onions: Having anti-inflammatory properties, onion can help reduce tightening of airways in asthma. Onions have sulfur that helps reduce swelling in the lungs. Eating raw or cooked onions helps clear the air passage.
